RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr was the loving and devoted husband of Montez Champion Gillis and the late Laura Jean Gillis; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., was the much-adored father of Hugh Jr., Donald and Jeanmarie to whom he imparted many ofthe fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., attended Georgia Military College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Agriculture in 1939; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., served in the Georgia State House of Representatives for twelve years and in the Georgia State Senate for forty-two years; and

WHEREAS, In 2001. the Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr was honored by the National Conference of State Legislators for being the country's longest serving state legislator; and

WHEREAS, A passionate advocate for healthcare, the Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., helped establish the Dental School at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and the Mercer Medical School in Macon; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Hugh M Gillis, Sr., improved the lives of many through his hard work to make healthcare more accessible to rural residents of the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
