RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council mourns the tragic loss of Chester Hornowski, a retired member of the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Raised in the Old Irving Park neighborhood, Chester Hornowski served two tours of duty as a member of the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Chester Hornowski worked for 34 years as a patrol officer with the Chicago Police Department and spent 36 years with the Illinois National Guard; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and illustrious career, Chester Hornowski fulfilled the finest and most noble tradition of public service; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as a police officer with the 17th District, Chester Hornowski displayed an intense interest in local politics; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of decades, Chester Hornowski ran for Mayor, State Representative and Alderman in three Northwest Side wards; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Chester Hornowski serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Chester Hornowski to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Chester Hornowski was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Chester Hornowski imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2018, do hereby commemorate Chester Hornowski for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
