RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Christine Wiener has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Christine Wiener was a widely admired advocate for children with autism and the loving and devoted wife of David; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Arlington Heights, Christine Wiener graduated from Indiana State University and earned a master's degree in psychology from Erikson Institute in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Known for her giving spirit and generous heart, Christine Wiener worked in social services throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Christine Wiener served for nearly 20 years on the board of the Giant Steps school which specializes in the treatment of autism; and
WHEREAS, Christine Wiener also helped to establish the Canopy program which helps autistic adults; and
WHEREAS, Christine Wiener also volunteered at Children's Memorial Hospital where she spent time with children suffering from cancer; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Christine Wiener serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To her husband, David, her mother, Louise Thornton, and her brothers, Thomas and James Thornton, Christine Wiener imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2016, do hereby commemorate Christine Wiener for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
