RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Manuel Santana was born on June 3, 1952 to Manuel and Aurea Santana, and is the big brother of Daniel Santana, Ester Morales and Luis Santana; and,
WHEREAS, Bom in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Manuel Santana and his family migrated to Chicago in 1957; and,
WHEREAS, Manuel attended St. Sebastian from Kindergarten through fifth grade, and then transferred to Nettelhorst where he graduated from eighth grade in 1967; and,
WHEREAS, Manuel Santana attended Lake View High School, where he was active in the football and wrestling teams; and,
WHEREAS, Drafted in 1972, Manuel Santana served his country for two years under the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany; and,
WHEREAS, After returning to the States, Manuel Santana attended Southern Illinois University where his brother, Daniel also was attending. During this time, Manuel became active in the wrestling team; and,
WHEREAS, In 1985, Manuel Santana joined the Chicago Police Department, and now after 32 years of service and dedication, Manuel will be retiring this month; and,
WHEREAS, In 1991, Manuel Santana married the love of his life, Joan Degand, and on May 8, 1994, they were blessed with a daughter, Natasha; and,
WHEREAS, Manuel Santana has suffered tremendous loss with the passing of his father on January 15, 2012, and recently, his beloved wife, Joan; and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 10th day of September A. D., do hereby offer our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Manuel Santana on his retirement from the Chicago Police Department; and,
