RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Yitzhak Hofi has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 87; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Tel Aviv, Yitzhak Hofi was a widely regarded military hero who fought in Israel's War for Independence in 1948 and devoted his life to protecting his nation's security; and
 
WHEREAS, Yitzhak Hofi rose to the rank of General and served as head of the northern command during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War; and
 
WHEREAS, Yitzhak Hofi was the chief of the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency from 1974 to 1982; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1976 Yitzhak Hofi played a key role in the lightening raid which freed more than 100 hostages from Entebbe Airport in Uganda after their Air France plane was hijacked by terrorists; and
 
WHEREAS, The courage, sacrifice and dedication of Yitzhak Hofi serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Yitzhak Hofi was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and '
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Yitzhak Hofi imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of October, 2014, do hereby commemorate Yitzhak Hofi for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Yitzhak Hofi.
