RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brooks has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brooks was the loving and devoted husband of Charlotte; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brooks was the much-adored father of Jeb, Kate and Kimberly to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brooks served with distinction for more than four decades as a Congressman representing southeast Texas; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brooks was pictured in the iconic photograph of Lyndon B. Johnson, being sworn into office aboard Air Force One after the assassination of j John F. Kennedy; and
WHEREAS, As a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, the Honorable Jack Brooks helped write the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jack Brooks served in many leadership positions and concluded his distinguished tenure in public service in 1994; and
WHEREAS, During World War II, the Honorable Jack Brooks served in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a member of the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Jack Brooks serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Jack Brooks imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2012, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Jack Brooks for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Jack Brooks.
