RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Caroline Glassman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Caroline Glassman was the first woman to serve on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Caroline Glassman was appointed to the high court in 1983 by Governor Joseph Brennan to succeed her late husband, the Honorable Harry P.; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Caroline Glassman was a role model and mentor to many and served on the state's Supreme Court until her retirement in 1997; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Caroline Glassman began her legal career as a title attorney in Salem, Oregon, before becoming a trial lawyer in San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, In Maine, the Honorable Caroline Glassman opened a legal practice in Portland and earned a reputation as a highly capable, detailed-oriented attorney; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Caroline Glassman serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Caroline Glassman was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Caroline Glassman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of July, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Caroline Glassman for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this
