Title: Tribute to late Paulino Villarreal, Sr.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Paulino Villarreal Sr. was a thirty-three year Department of Streets and Sanitation worker and community stalwart in the 1800 block of South Laflin Street in the Pilsen Neighborhood located in the 25th Ward of the City of Chicago.

 

WHEREAS, although a native of Laredo, Texas, Villarreal Sr. called Chicago home for over fifty years. Living for decades with his wife Judy Villarreal and family in Pilsen, and now recently departed after a battle against cancer.

 

WHEREAS, Villarreal Sr. volunteered his time to supporting a men's shelter, giving out turkeys on Thanksgiving, passing out petitions for elected officials, and even helping solve disputes between community members.

 

WHEREAS, a stern but fair patriarch for his family, Villarreal Sr. was known as the "grandpa to the whole neighborhood." Constantly looking on from the bench outside his home willing to chat with neighbors, greeting strangers walking by with the Tejano music he enjoyed.

 

WHEREAS, this body nearly a decade ago dedicated "Honorary Paulino Villarreal Way" in light of his steadfast commitment to his family and community. Memorializing him forever on the corner of West 18th Place and South Laflin Street.

 

BE IT RESOLVED IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO;

That we, the undersigned members of the City of Chicago City Council hereby recognize the community impact and long city career of Paulino Villarreal Sr. and commemorate his legacy as a close friend to many and a community hero to his family, in these chambers today.
