MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR ADELL YOUNG

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the peaceful departure of Adell Young, affectionately known as "Momma Dell" by the members of the Austin community; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Adell Young was a founding member of Every Block A Village, a not- for- profit community-based organization whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of the residents of the Austin and Westside communities of Chicago, where she served as a Citizen Leader for twenty years; and
WHEREAS, She was also a volunteer organizer and convener of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group at John Hay School for eight years; and

WHEREAS, Adell was also a volunteer with the Austin Green Team, a community gardening team that focused on beautifying vacant lots with gardens throughout the community and supporting green spaces throughout the Westside; and

WHEREAS, An active member of the 37th Ward Senior Community, Adell was a principal organizing member of Seniors on the Move, a Lafollette Park organization promoting a healthy lifestyle, caring, sharing and giving among seniors throughout the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Adell was a dedicated ambassador to the Chicago health professional community for over fourteen years, leading sensitivity trainings, encouraging physicians to respect and listen to their patients in the community; and
WHEREAS, Adell touched the lives of all who knew her, serving her community with dignity and passion. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2016, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Adell Young; and
