City Council Meeting January 18, 2023 Agreed Calendar
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Canaryville Veterans Association was founded in February 1993; and
WHEREAS, it has grown from the original 14 members to over 500 members throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the membership consists of veterans of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines, as well as active military and associate members; and
WHEREAS, the organization's goals are to promote patriotism; to aid veterans, their families, the Canaryville neighborhood, families in need; to assist veterans' outreach programs; to assist outreach programs for active service member; and
WHEREAS, the organization sponsors civic, scholastic, and athletic programs and events for local youths; and
WHEREAS, the organization raises money to provide care packages to veterans' hospitals and active service members, to provide financial relief for those in need, and to provide death benefits to members and their families; and
WHEREAS, the organization has worked to memorialize Canaryville veterans, both past and present; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 18th day of January, 2023, do hereby honor the accomplishments ofthe Canaryville Veterans Association and extend our heartfelt congratulations on their 30th anniversary; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that suitable copies ofthis resolution be presented to the Canaryville Veterans Association as a symbol of our gratitude and esteem.
