RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew served as the Prime Minister of Singapore for more than three decades from 1959 to 1990; and
WHEREAS, Born in Singapore, the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew was a graduate of the London School of Economics and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge; and
WHEREAS, Considered the founding father of modern Singapore, the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew played a critical role in helping it grow into a stable, wealthy nation in just one generation; and
WHEREAS, Under the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore thrived as an economic and global shipping hub; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew remained a member of Parliament after serving as Prime Minister; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew was the father of Singapore's current Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Lee Kuan Yew. /i
