RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Reverend Walter McNicholas has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-four; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, the Reverend Walter McNicholas was a widely admired Catholic priest and educator; and
WHEREAS, Though his fifty-eight year ministry, the Reverend Walter McNicholas served at several parishes and schools, including St. Rita High School in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure at St. Rita, the Reverend Walter McNicholas was a teacher, guidance counselor, vocations director and chaplain and became a legendary figure at the high school; and
WHEREAS, Known affectionately as "Fr. McNic" by generations of students, the Reverend Walter McNicholas took a genuine interest in the lives of the young men whom he taught and counseled; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Walter McNicholas was ordained in 1952 and devoted more than half a century to parish, academic and hospital ministries; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Walter McNicholas inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend • Walter McNicholas serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Walter McNicholas will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, colleagues, and students; and
WHEREAS, To his two sisters, RoseMary Morris and Helen Marszalek, and his beloved family, the Reverend Walter McNicholas imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate the Reverend Walter McNicholas for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
