RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF MIDCO
INTERNATIONAL
WHEREAS, Midco International was incorporated in 1941 as Mid-Continent Metal Products and is celebrating its 75th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been informed of Midco's milestone by Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Mid-Continent initially focused on the stamping and machining of small parts. When President Art Zitzewitz entered the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in charge of Mediterranean tank maintenance, he was succeeded by his wife Sonya Zitzewitz. After the war the company began selling Economite gas burners which quickly became the industry standard; and
WHEREAS, The company's next President, Hal Beyer, helped develop the Incinomite line of gas burners for incineration and the company remains the sole manufacturer of this type of burner; and
WHEREAS, Mid-Continent developed a charcoal-free gas food broiler for Don Roth's Blackhawk restaurant, starting the "char broiler" trend in the restaurant industry. The company created the Emberglo Division to sell these highly popular broilers; and
WHEREAS, due to the strong growth of the company it expanded into new facilities in the 1960's; and,
WHEREAS, in 1979 the company changed its name to Midco International due to its growing foreign business; and
WHEREAS, DeeDee Beyer assumed the role of President in 1988 upon the passing of her husband. She was President for about ten years until her death and was followed by her daughter Teri Stanger, while Ric Beyer become Chairman of the Board; and
WHEREAS, An ISO certified business, Midco continues to prosper and thrive on Chicago's Peterson and Pulaski Industrial Corridor; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Chicago, this 22nd day of June, 2016, recognize Midco International for its lasting contributions to our City and State and wholeheartedly congratulate Midco on this milestone anniversary; and
