RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Winnetka, the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., was a widely admired member of the judicial community and the. loving husband of Dr. Janet and the late Ann; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., was the much-adored father of Richard, Kit, Tia, Dan, Michaela, Molly and Patrick and the grandfather of twelve to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., was a longtime member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit; and

WHEREAS, Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., was the grandson of meatpacking entrepreneur Patrick Cudahy; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., graduated from West Point and served in the United States Air Force before graduating from Yale Law School; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., interrupted his legal career in 1961 to run his family business for a decade; and

WHEREAS, President Jimmy Carter named the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., to the appeals court in 1979 where he ably served for 36 years, 15 of those years on active status; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy, Sr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day...
