CONSENT CALENDAR
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, West Edgewater Area Residents, commonly called WEAR, a neighborhood association in the greater Edgewater community, was founded in December in 1993 to serve as an advocate for beautifying and advancing the concerns of the immediate community; and
WHEREAS, in 1994 WEAR President Emeritus Joe Drantz negotiated with Union Pacific for a protracted period to enter into a Beautification Lease Agreement that allows WEAR to improve and maintain one of the largest Community Gardens in the City; and
WHEREAS, in the early Richard M. Daley Mayoral administration, the newly created Chicago Greencorps program provided training to Joe Drantz, with Horst and Anna Wagener and other WEAR volunteers, to build a scale model plan designating the varieties of plants, trees, and shrubs for an expanded WEAR Graden; and
WHEREAS, the continued development and maintenance of the WEAR Garden has since been led by Horst and Anna Wagener, who have shopped for plantings, many transported from out-of-state, to economically provide dramatic and colorful summer displays for the Garden each year, and who have spent countless hours volunteering tending to the garden's needs for nearly 30 years, inspiring many others to contribute; and
WHEREAS, over the course of these many years the WEAR Garden won many City awards ranging from Honorable Mention to several First and Second Place City awards during the Daley administration's "Urbs in Horto", or City in a Garden, programs; and
WHEREAS, in appreciation of their many years of contributions to the WEAR Garden, the WEAR Board of Directors acknowledges that the name of the WEAR Garden shall be known as the "Horst and Anna Wagener WEAR Garden," with a new sign to be placed in the garden, and asks the City's recognition of Horst and Anna Wagener's dedicated service, now therefore:
