RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Frank Lautenberg, the last World War II veteran in the United States Senate, has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Frank Lautenberg was the loving and devoted husband of Bonnie and the late Lois; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Frank Lautenberg was the beloved father of Ellen, Nan, Lisa and Joshua to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A proud veteran of World War II, the Honorable Frank Lautenberg served overseas in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1942 to 1946; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Columbia University Business School on the GI Bill, the Honorable Frank Lautenberg went on to a successful career in business, rising to become the Chief Executive Officer of Automatic Data Processing in 1975; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Frank Lautenberg served as executive commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from 1978 to 1982 before winning election to the United States Senate from New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, After three terms in the Senate, the Honorable Frank Lautenberg left politics in 2001 only to return two years later, and was, at the time of his passing, New Jersey's longest serving senator; and
WHEREAS, During his decades in politics, the Honorable Frank Lautenberg was admired for his high principles and tireless dedication to public service; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Frank Lautenberg helped establish the drinking age at 21 nationwide and led the charge to discourage driving under the influence by enacting stringent standards; and
WHEREAS, With his progressive stance on airline safety, gun control and anti-smoking regulations, the Honorable Frank Lautenberg fostered the health and safety of the American people; and
