RESOLUTION HONORING POLICE OFFICE JERRY ZANDERS
WHEREAS, Chicago Police Department Police Office Jerry Zanders was among the honorees at the Twenty-First Annual Mayfair Salute to American Heroes on November 6, 2022; and
WHEREAS, This body was informed of that honor by Alderman Samantha Nugent; and
WHEREAS, Jerry was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood where he attended Grace Luthern School at Diversey and Laramie. Jerry graduated from Luther North High School in 1985 and then attended Wright College, graduating in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Jerry followed in the footsteps of his father, who served as Chicago Police Department Commander for the 23rd District, and began a career in law enforcement with the Cook County Sheriff as a Correctional Officer at 26th and California, before joining the Chicago Police Department in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Jerry served the 23rd District for 13 years and worked on the Burglary and Robbery Mission Team, recovering stolen items. In 2013 Jerry began working in the 17th District as a Beat Officer for the 1733 Beat, then worked as a Community Policing Officer with the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy "CAPS" Office in the 17th District where he led programs like the Youth Police Explorers and the Youth Court Advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Jerry has mad a great impact in the 17th Police District and the communities he has served, strengthening partnerships with the Illinois State Police, the Chicago Fire Department and other First Responders. After 22 years with the Chicago Police department, Jerry retired this Fall; and
WHEREAS, Jerry looks forward to spending more time with his wife Sue, playing 12 inch soft ball, and staying active; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this Fourteenth day of December, 2022, do hereby express our congratulations to Police Office Jerry Zanders on his well-deserved honor; and
