RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Zarzycki Manor Chapels, a family-operated business located in Chicago and Willow Springs, is celebrating the occasion of its 100th Anniversary during 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, In 1915 Agnes Zarzycki, a 31-year-old Polish immigrant, founded A.S. Zarzycki Funeral Home and became the first female funeral director of Polish descent in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Fluent in both English and Polish, Agnes Zarzycki was a graduate of Worsham Mortuary Training School and opened her original location at 2532 South Sacramento Avenue; and
WHEREAS, The business grew and thrived over the years and operated from locations on West 25th Street and Cermak Road; and
WHEREAS, In 1962 a new funeral home was built on the corner of Archer and Keeler Avenues and it became known as Zarzycki Manor Chapels; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, under the direction of the fourth generation of the family to run the funeral home, an additional modern-day site opened its doors at 8999 South Archer Avenue in Willow Springs; and
WHEREAS, Zarzycki Manor Chapels is currently led by the founder's granddaughter-in-law, Claudette, and great granddaughters, Charmaine and Andrea Zarzycki; and
WHEREAS, The Zarzycki family are proud members of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, the Archer Heights Civic Association and the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and
WHEREAS, The legacy, hard work and dedication of the Zarzycki family serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby congratulate Zarzycki Manor Chapels as it celebrates a century of compassionate and professional funeral service to families in the Chicago area; and
