MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Chicago Fire Department Retired Battalion 10 Chief Ronald S. DiRenzo, on September 29, 2013, at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Ronald DiRenzo, born on July 8, 1930, was an active and vital member of his community. The beloved husband of Carol, nee Gondela; loving father of Ronald S. "Scotty" (Charlotte), Barbara (Larry) Wesley, the late James J. DiRenzo; stepfather of Ronald C. (Kathy) Malinowski, Larry (Stacey) Malinowski; dear grandfather of Jason (Lisa), Amanda (Tony), Cathy Schmidt and the late Robert Schmidt; greatgrandfather of J.J.; uncle and friend of many, Ron leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, On September 25, 1969, while assigned to the Chicago Fire Department Bomb Squad, Ron disarmed a bomb containing 17 sticks of dynamite found in a washroom in what is now the Richard J. Daley Center. For this grand act of heroism, the Chicago Civil Service Commission awarded Mr. DiRenzo the highly esteemed Carter H. Harrison Heroism Award; and
WHEREAS, Ron DiRenzo was a dedicated and proud American, who spent his life in the public service. In addition to his many years of service with the Chicago Fire Department, Ron was a United States Army Korean War Veteran, a member of the United States Coast Guard; a member of American Legion Post 0667 and a member of the Elk Club of Des Plaines, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Ron DiRenzo will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence, bravery, and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
