Resolution Honoring Pastor Dennis Tidwell
WHEREAS, Pastor Dennis Tidwell celebrated his 14th anniversary at Greater New St. James M.B. Church on June 25, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of this auspicious occasion by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Tidwell was the third child born to Ethel and Wilson Tidwell in Chicago, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Dennis attended Biedler Elementary School. He was very close to his oldest brother. Dennis was a White Sox and basketball fan. His favorite foods were Oreos and hot dogs; and
WHEREAS, His first job was at the Jewel store in Westchester. At 15, Dennis gave his first sermon: "Acts 5: 1-5 Danger of Lying to Holy Ghost"; and
WHEREAS, At 17, he got his driver's license, the first to do so in his family. He graduated high school in Chicago and attended Moody Bible Institute and Chicago Baptist Institute; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Tidwell met Barbara Baymon outside United. They were married and had three daughters. They also have four wonderful granddaughters; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Tidwell became the pastor of the Greater New St. James M.B. Church on June 25, 2003. Under his leadership the Church has flourished and is the spiritual home to many; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby express our congratulations to Pastor Dennis Tidwell on his 14th anniversary at Greater New St. James M.B. Church.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Pastor Dennis Tidwell as a token of our esteem, gratitude and respect.
