RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-six; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, As the first post-Communist Prime Minister of Poland, the Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki played an important role in Eastern Europe's democratic transformation; and
WHEREAS, An author and journalist, the Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki was born in Plock, Poland, and was trained as a lawyer; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki became an influential force when he joined ranks with the striking Gdansk shipyard workers and helped lead the Solidarity movement that ousted Poland's Communist regime; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki served as Prime Minister of Poland from 1989 to 1991 under President Lech Walesa; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, the Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki helped to shape his nation's burgeoning free market economy; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Tadeusz Mazowiecki for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
