RESOLUTION
 
 
 
WHEREAS, More than 25,000 World War II veterans live in the Chicago Metropolitan Area, of which 4,600 have flown with Honor Flight Chicago, a not-for-profit organization which believes that the American veteran is one of our greatest treasures; and
 
WHEREAS, Honor Flight Chicago offers veterans, especially those who served their country during World War II, the opportunity to fly for a day at no charge to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials and participate in ceremonies aimed at recognizing their brave and valiant service; and
 
WHEREAS, Honor Flight Chicago has begun taking applications from Korean War and Vietnam War veterans for future flight participation; and
 
WHEREAS, On the evening of Wednesday, April 9, 2014, St. Richard Parish will participate in an event to welcome members of "Our Greatest Generation" back to Chicago at Midway Airport; and
 
WHEREAS, This patriotic salute is intended to greet World War II heroes as they return from the nation's Capitol and exemplify the true expression of appreciation that Chicagoans hold in their hearts for our military veterans; and
 
WHEREAS, All residents of the Archer Heights community and the Southwest Side are encouraged to attend this uplifting and moving celebration which will be held at the baggage claim level; and
 
WHEREAS, The sacrifice and service of our military veterans have guaranteed the freedom that each and every American enjoys today; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this second day of April, 2014, do hereby express our gratitude to the World War II veterans of the Chicago area for their courageous and heroic service to our nation; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to St. Richard Parish.
