RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Peter H. Huizenga has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Oak Brook, Peter H. Huizenga was a widely admired business leader and the loving husband for 50 years of Heidi; and
WHEREAS, Peter H. Huizenga was the much-adored father of Betsy, Greta, Peter Jr. and Tim and the grandfather of ten to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born into a family that ran a garbage hauling business, Peter H. Huizenga graduated from Hope College and the University of Illinois Law School; and
WHEREAS, Peter H. Huizenga practiced law before joining the family business which evolved into Waste Management and became a Fortune 500 company; and
WHEREAS, Peter H. Huizenga was an early investor in Blockbuster Video and many other businesses; and
WHEREAS, A man of great integrity and religious conviction, Peter H. Huizenga was an enthusiastic supporter of Big Shoulders Fund, Timothy Christian Schools, Christ Church of Oak Brook, Trinity Christian College, Hope College and many other organizations; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Peter H. Huizenga serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Peter H. Huizenga to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Peter H. Huizenga was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Peter H. Huizenga imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby ...
