TRIBUTE TO LOUIS CHARLES RAYMOND, SR.

 

WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, almighty God has granted eternal peace to his faithful servant, devoted father, and beloved grandfather, Louis Charles Raymond, Sr., on September 23, 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, Louis began life in Augusta, Arkansas on July 15, 1933. After migrating to this city and graduating from DuSable High School, he entered the United States Air Force and saw active duty in Korea. After his honorable discharge from the military, he matriculated at Columbia College in Chicago where he enrolled in its broadcasting program; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1976, Louis was united in holy matrimony to Wanda Simmons, who preceded him in passing. To this union, an only child, Louis Charles Raymond II was born. Combining his love of broadcasting and devotion to God, he hosted gospel radio show on WMPP from 1978 to 1989. He retired from the Chicago Park District after serving for 28 years as a drama instructor; and

 

WHEREAS, Louis Charles Raymond, Sr., affectionately known as "L.C.", leaves behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his memory, his son Louis Charles Raymond II and his grandchildren Trey and Liberty Raymond as well as his sisters Verna Hayes, Teretha Durham, and Barbara Young, and brothers Charles, Tony, and Clyde Raymond; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Roderick Sawyer, Alderman of the 6th Ward, has informed this august body of the passing of Louis Charles Raymond, Sr.; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled this 16th Day of November, 2020 AD, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon the passing of Louis Charles Raymond, Sr. and extend our deepest condolences to his family and the many friends whose lives he touched.
