RESOLUTION HONORING THE 50TH ANNIVERSERY OF BUDDY BEAR'S CAR WASH
WHEREAS, Buddy Bear's Car Wash, a retail business owned by three generations of West Side residents, is celebrating 50 years of service in the City; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Jason Ervin, Alderman of the 28th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Buddy Bear's Car Wash, currently owned by Phillip De Geratto, was started in 1972 by Phillip's father Buddy at the corner of Washington and Pulaski; arid
WHEREAS, Since its;humble beginnings, Buddy Bear's: has grown to 16 locations, spanning the West and South sides as well as a number of nearby suburban communities; the locations are large.and attractive, provide state-of-the-art carwash facilities, generate traffic for neighboring retail stores, and have helped put long-vacant property back on the tax rolls; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being a good neighbor, Buddy Bear's is a good employer, employing over 100 people who receive competitive wages and full benefits; and
WHEREAS, Phil's dad and grandfather also ran retail grocery stores on the West Side under the Buddy Bear name; these stores were large, clean, and modern and were located in what would today be called "food deserts"; and
WHEREAS; Throughout years of changes and expansions, Buddy Bear's one constant is their commitment to being a good neighbor, and employer, in keeping with their motto "People who care wash at Buddy Bear's" and we wish them many more years of success; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-second day of June, 2022, do hereby congratulate Buddy Bear's Car Wash for 50 years in business and wish for many more; and
