RECOGNITION OF THE 20* ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHINESE AMERICAN SERVICE LEAGUE'S SENIOR HOUSING


WHEREAS, It is with great honor that members of this chamber celebrate and commemorate the 20,h Anniversary of the Chinese American Service League's Senior Housing in Chinatown; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Alderman Daniel Solis of the 25^ Ward informed the Council of this achievement in honor of May being Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month; and

WHEREAS, The Chinese American Service League has positively contributed to the Chicago community for over 40 years and exists to provide physical, economic, and mental health services to people in the Chinese community of the greater Chicago area. Incorporated in the Chinese American Service League's core values are respecting the individual, honoring culture and heritage, building resiliency, promoting integration, and focusing on community; and

WHEREAS, One of their focuses on community includes consistent and compassionate support to seniors to live full and dignified independent lives. The Chinese American Service League's Senior Housing is located at 2108 South Princeton Avenue, in the heart of Chicago's Chinatown, and remains one of only two senior homes in the Chinatown neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, The Chinese American Service League's Senior Housing is managed by Embrace Living Communities and consists of ninety apartments. In 1999 the building received Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards which included the Richard Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence; and

WHEREAS, The community is ethnically and culturally diverse and many residents have the opportunity to celebrate Chinese holidays and traditions. Local grocery and pharmacy stores, community centers, and public transportation options are easily accessible in the community and contribute to the culturally vibrant area; now therefore
