RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Stanton R. Cook has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Kenilworth, Stanton R. Cook was a former head of the Tribune Company and the loving husband for 44 years of the late Barbara "Bobbie"; and

WHEREAS, Stanton R. Cook was the much-adored father of Scott, David, Douglas, Sarah and Nancy and the grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Stanton R. Cook was raised in Park Ridge and served his country during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Stanton R. Cook joined the Chicago Tribune in 1951 as a production engineer and rose to become General Manager and Publisher of its flagship newspaper; and

WHEREAS, Stanton R. Cook was elected Chief Executive Officer of the Tribune Company in 1974 and was a true pioneer who will be remembered for developing and diversifying the national media company; and

WHEREAS, During his 16-year tenure at the helm of the Tribune Company, Stanton R. Cook took the closely-held company public, purchased the Chicago Cubs and built the Freedom Center Printing Plant; and

WHEREAS, Stanton R. Cook split the Tribune's broadcasting arm into a separate division which became the nation's largest operator of independent television stations; and

WHEREAS, Widely admired for his many civic contributions, Stanton R. Cook was a Trustee of the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Stanton R. Cook serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His' love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Stanton R. Cook to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
