RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ruth Ratny has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Ratny was an influential journalist who chronicled the Chicago film, advertising and visual media industry for thirty years; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of German immigrants, Ruth Ratny was raised in the Rogers Park neighborhood and early in her career worked as a copywriter in advertising; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Ratny became a Creative Director at Fred A. Niles Productions at 1058 West Washington Street, later the site of Harpo Productions; and
WHEREAS, In 1979 Ruth Ratney founded the print-based advertising and film publication, Screen Chicago, which she led for 23 years before selling it in 2001; and
WHEREAS, In 2004 Ruth Ratney founded ReelChicago.com, an online industry trade publication; and
WHEREAS, A self-made entrepreneur, Ruth Ratny fostered a sense of community within the film business through her publications; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ruth Ratny serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ruth Ratny to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Ruth Ratny imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March,
