RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING DOLORES QUIROZ ON HER 108th BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Dolores Quiroz, long-time resident of the 28th Ward, celebrated the joyous occasion of her 108th birthday on February 3, 2021; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Jason Ervin, Alderman of the 28th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Dolores Quiroz was born on February 3, 1913, in Barstow, California to Tomas and Maria Arambula; she is the eldest of eight siblings; and
WHEREAS, When Dolores was 12 years old, her family relocated to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, where she completed her studies and earned a teaching certificate before going on to teach at Hidalgo Elementary School for 12 years; and
WHEREAS, Dolores met her future husband, Rafael A. Quiroz, while living in Nuevo Laredo; they were wed on February 1, 1948, and to their blessed union four children were born: Dolores, George, Virginia, and Mireya Quiroz; and
WHEREAS, Dolores and the family, moved to Chicago in 1948 in search for a better life, and settled in the area of Taylor Street and Oakley Boulevard, now better known as the Tri-Taylor neighborhood, where Dolores still resides today; and
WHEREAS, In 1956, Dolores found employment with the Ferrara Pan Candy Company in Forest Park, and quickly rose through the ranks to the position of supervisor, retiring at the age of 72 after 29 years of service; and
WHEREAS, Dolores enjoys traveling and spending time with her 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; she credits her long life to her strong faith, healthy eating, and positive attitude, and to writing letters, keeping up with the world's events, and a full social life; and
WHEREAS, Dolores is an amazing, loving, caring, strong woman who has touched many lives with her joyous attitude and wisdom; and
WHEREAS, Dolores' previous birthday celebrations have brought numerous family and friends from locations across the US and Mexico; this year, her family was creative and held a drive-by...
