RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Howard Witt has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Howard Witt was a legendary Chicago character actor who achieved success both on stage and in television; and
WHEREAS, Howard Witt moved to Hollywood in the 1970s and appeared in more than 75 television shows, including Kojak, The Bob Newhart Show, WKRP in Cincinnati, The Rockford Files, Archie Bunker's Place, Hill Street Blues and Law and Order, and
WHEREAS, Above all else, Howard Witt enjoyed performing on the stage and resolutely believed that acting was a noble profession; and
WHEREAS, Howard Witt was most proud of his Tony nomination for his role at Goodman Theatre's production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman; and
WHEREAS, A highly revered member of the theater community, Howard Witt was a mentor to generations of aspiring actors; and
WHEREAS, The talent, hard work and dedication of Howard Witt serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Howard Witt to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his three children, Robin, Deborah (C.P.D.) and Joshua, and his grandson, Howard Witt imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby commemorate Howard Witt for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
