MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF CHARLES ROY LEE
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his heavenly home, Mr. Charles Roy Lee, a beloved citizen, faithful man of God and 8th Ward resident, on October 27, 2015; and
WHEREAS, 1, Alderman Michelle A. Harris, and on behalf of the residents of the 8th Ward and my fellow colleagues of the Chicago City Council have informed this august body of the passing of Mr. Lee; and
WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was born in Malvern, Arkansas, on January 27, 1930 to parents Mr. Roy Lee and Mrs. Mae Elizabeth (nee Barker) Lee; and
WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was the eldest boy in his family, and was formally educated in the Hot Spring County Public School System in Malvern, Arkansas. As a young adult, he moved to Chicago in 1948 to explore better opportunities, and was drafted into the US Armed Services in 1951. There he served in the Korean War Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1953; and
WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was united in holy matrimony to the former Miss Alma Tyler. To this loving and enduring union, two sons, Gregory and Kevin were born. They recently celebrated fifty-nine (59) years of marital bliss.
WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was a vital, active and respectable citizen who resided in the 8th Ward community for some sixty-five (65) years: and further, Mr. Lee was a loyal and faithful member of Coppin African Methodist (AME) Episcopal Church, which he joined with his late sisters, Lois Gee and Rosa Hunter. He remained faithful to the Coppin AME Church family, and he also gave strong support to his wife Alma and her commitment to the St. James African Methodist Church Family; and
WHEREAS, Charles Roy Lee was a highly capable and dedicated employee of the U.S. Steel Company, where he put in thirty-two (32) years of professional service.
