RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cashman, a widely admired civic leader, has concluded his esteemed tenure as President of the 100 Club of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cashman has proudly served on the board of the 100 Club of Chicago for twenty-two years and will continue to contribute to its success in his new role as Chairman over the next two years; and
WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Chicago's mission is to help provide for the surviving spouses and dependents of law enforcement officers, firefighters and paramedics who lose their lives in the line-of-duty, including federal, state, county and local personnel who served in Cook County; and .
WHEREAS, Under the leadership and guidance of Thomas J. Cashman, the 100 Club of Chicago has expanded to include 1,200 members and increased its visibility through high-profile public service announcements; and
WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Chicago has enhanced its support of families of the fallen by providing full-tuition to 100 Club of Chicago scholars, free summer camps for children and pro-bono services; and
WHEREAS, The son of a firefighter, Thomas J. Cashman was raised in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side and graduated from Fenwick High School and Loras College; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Cashman completed graduate work in chemistry at Northwestern University before joining the CBOT in the late 1960s; and
WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of Thomas J. Cashman serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2012, do hereby recognize Thomas J. Cashman for his leadership as President of the 100 Club of Chicago and do hereby extend our respect and appreciation for his dedicated service; and
BE ZT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Thomas J. Cashman.
