WHEREAS, Jonny Imerman was diagnosed with testicular cancer at age 26 and began his fight against the disease; and
WHEREAS, Based dn what he witnessed in hospitals during his recovery, Jonny Imerman wanted to create an organization that is based on the belief that nobody should fight cancer alone and founded the Imerman Angels; and
WHEREAS, Jonny Imerman envisioned the mission of the Imerman Angels to provide personalized connections that enable one-on-one support among cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 2003, the Imerman Angels introduces each cancer fighter to one survivor who is the same age, same gender, and someone who has already beaten that particular type of cancer. A cancer survivor would be an angel - walking, talking, living proof to inspire the fighter that he/she can beat cancer. This was the beginning of Jonny's vision; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Brendan Reilly, Alderman of the 42nd Ward where the Imerman Angels organization is located has informed this august body of this outstanding citizen and member of his community; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled this 8th day of November, 2012 A.D., do hereby express our sincere gratitude to Jonny Imerman and the Imerman Angels ; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Jonny Imerman and the Imerman Angels.
