WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-five; and /

WHEREAS, The City of Chicago has been informed of his passing by Alderman Joseph a. Moore; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman was a well-known portrait, still-life and landscape artist, having created works for the Museum of Science and Industry, the Chicago Historical Society, the Art Institute of Chicago, and for various colleges and private collections throughout the country; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman was honored with various accolades, including being listed in "Who's Who of American Women," inclusion in the "The World Book Encyclopedia" for her rare portrait silhouette artistry; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman exhibited her work throughout the country and published her work "A Silhouette Grows Up," reflecting the life of her daughter Leah from babyhood to maturity, which was excerpted in the Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman regularly shared her convictions that art enhances intelligence and engenders serenity on numerous radio and television shows; and,

WHERAS, Serella Kaufman shared her love and unique artistry skills with many, teaching art in her private studio; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman was a prolific author of short stories and poetry, children's illustrated books, and travel journals chronicling her extensive journeys throughout the United States with illustrations of America's most scenic and historically significant sites; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman was an active and widely admired member of the 49th Ward Democratic Organization in the 70s and 80s; and,

WHEREAS, Serella Kaufman was the beloved wife of the late Maurice Kaufman, adored mother of Leah Kaufman Bloomenthal (Jordon), and the cherished sister of three brothers; and,

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Serella Kaufman imparts a legacy of beauty that will live on in their hearts through her artwork; now, ...
