SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

SECTION 1. Chapter 13-96 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by repealing Section 13-96-085 in its entirety.

SECTION 2. Section 17-15-0503 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting the language struck though, as follows:
17-15-0503 Continuation of Nonconforming Signs. Nonconforming signs may remain in use, subject to the regulations of this section (Sec. 17-15-0500), section 13-20-565, and all other applicable requirements ofthe Municipal Code. Nonconforming signs must be maintained in good repair, and must comply with all other requirements of this Zoning Ordinance.
Notwithstanding any other provision of this oodo to tho contrary, a legally ostablishod and lawfully permitted nonconforming off promises sign may be replaced and such roplaoomont shall not affoot tho logal status of tho sign or sign structure as nonconforming if:
the owner of a lot on which a nonconforming off-premises sign and sign ctructuro is located is replacing the sign and sign structure solely for the purpose of entering into a contract with a now sign pormittoo;
tho roplacomont ofthe sign and sign structure is complotod within 6 months of tho termination of the contract with tho sign pormittoo; provided that if a building permit is required for the construction of a new sign structure, tho owner shall have until the expiration of the term of the building permit to oroot tho replacement sign structuro;
tho replacement sign and sign structure are no larger or higher in size, aroa and height and have the same placement and configuration ofthe original sign and sign structure;
tho replacement sign is the same typo of sign as tho original sign and doos not incorporate any new or different technological elements; and
the owner of tho lot has registered the sign and sign structure with tho commissionor of buildings in compliance with Section 13-96-085.
