RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On Patriots' Day, April 15, 2013, the City of Boston sustained a horrific attack when two bombs detonated in the crowd gathered at the finish line of the Boston Marathon; and
WHEREAS, This heinous act of terror transformed a joyous and life-affirming event into a scene of unspeakable carnage, with three persons killed and nearly 300 injured; and
WHEREAS, In the immediate aftermath of the bombing and for days afterward, the people of Boston and its adjacent communities were trapped in a nightmare of uncertainty, waiting nervously in their homes while local and national authorities investigated the crime and sought to capture the perpetrators, who continued their terrible campaign by murdering a law enforcement officer and committing armed robbery and carjacking; and
WHEREAS, Despite the overwhelming pain and anxiety wrought by this traumatizing series of events, Bostonians - together with their neighbors in Allston-Brighton, Brookline, Cambridge, Belmont, Waltham, Newton, Watertown, and Somerville - remained utterly resolute, banding together to support each other and defy their attackers; and
WHEREAS, Exhibiting more than mere resolve, many locals played key roles in the hunt for the attackers, including the carjacking victim who daringly escaped and immediately contacted the police, the victim with grievous injuries who, upon awakening in the hospital, promptly provided information identifying one of the bombers, and the owner of the boat where the surviving suspect was hidden, who detected subtle signs that something was amiss and made the report that resulted in the suspect's capture; and
WHEREAS, The police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders displayed exemplary courage and selflessness, rising to the occasion, as they invariably do, to provide protection, comfort, and care to the people in a time of dire need; and
WHEREAS, Far from accomplishing their aim of terrorizing our Nation, the April 15 attacks serve...
