RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Aldermen Edward M. Burke and Carrie M. Austin; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Calumet Heights, Donald L. Duster was the loving husband for fifty years of Maxine; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster was the much-adored father of Michelle, David and Daniel to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster was the dear brother of Troy and Alfreda; and

WHEREAS, Born on the South Side, Donald L. Duster was a grandson of journalist, suffragist and civil rights leader Ida B. Wells; and

WHEREAS, Along with his siblings, Donald L. Duster was a founder of the Ida B. Wells Memorial Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster graduated from Wendell Phillips High School and the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster served his county as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army and in 1978 earned a master's degree in business from DePaul University; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster worked for twenty-five years as an executive in management positions at Commonwealth Edison Company; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster took a leave of absence from 1977 to 1979 to serve in Governor James R. Thompson's administration as Director of the Illinois Department of Business Affairs; and

WHEREAS, After concluding his tenure at ComEd in 1987, Donald L. Duster was named Assistant Executive Director of the Chicago Commons Association, where he oversaw social service programs and various sites for the non-profit organization; and
WHEREAS, An avid reader, photographer and traveler, Donald L. Duster was also a longtime member of the Economic Club of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Donald L. Duster serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Donald L. Duster will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by ...
