RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 96; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Godfrey Thyra Thomson was the loving and devoted wife of the late Honorable Keith Thomson, who died in 1960 only a few months shortly after winning election as a United States Senator from Wyoming; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson was the much-adored mother of Bill, Bruce and K.C., the cherished grandmother of Keith, Paul, Laura and Jennifer and the beloved great-grandmother of Jack, Charlie, Andrew and Liam to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by her husband's civic commitment, the Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson ran for and won election as Wyoming's first woman Secretary of State, the second most powerful elected position in the executive branch; and
WHEREAS, During her twenty-four years in public service, the Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson served honorably under three governors and won the admiration and respect of her colleagues with her effective delivery of services, grace under pressure and capacity for hard work; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson was an advocate for women's equality in employment and pay; and
WHEREAS, After retiring from politics, the Honorable Godfrey Thyra Thomson remained actively involved in promoting many worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, The perseverance, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Thyra Godfrey Thomson to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
