SALUTE TO CHICAGO POLICE OFFICERS PEDRO ZAPATA AND RAFAEL BORIA
WHEREAS, On May 18, 2013, Chicago Police Officers Pedro Zapata (Star #19467) and Rafael Boria (Star #12800), responding to a disturbance call at the Belmont CTA train stop, arrested three juvenile offenders for strong-arm robbery; and
WHEREAS, The area surrounding DePaul University has experienced an uptick in a pattern of robberies and thefts, with the perpetrators targeting mobile phones, credit cards, and other personal belongings. The Chicago Police Department increased patrols in the area, particularly on the CTA trains and stations; and
WHEREAS, Officers Zapata and Boria were working on the CTA Red Line patrol and responded to a violent disturbance call at the Belmont CTA stop where perpetrators had allegedly threatened victims with violence in the process of robbing them. The officers detained three suspects, and the resulting search of the suspects revealed stolen items from several victims. The officers were able to return the items to their rightful owners; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard F. Mell, Alderman of the 33rd Ward, has apprised this august body of the outstanding police work of Officers Pedro Zapata and Rafael Boria; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor, and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 24lh day of July, 2013, do hereby salute Officers Pedro Zapata and Rafael Boria for their outstanding police work, and recognize that their actions on May 18, 2013, has led to a safer environment for this city's citizens; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That^uitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to Officers Pedro Zapata and Rafael Boria and placed in their personnel files.
