MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the July 27, 2013 death of Rev. Or. J.B. Singha; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been Informed of his passing by the Honorable Debra Silverstein, Alderman ofthe 50* Ward; and
WHEREAS, Rev. J.B. Singha was an active and vital member of his community. He was bom in India on August 23, 1936 and emigrated to the United States in the 1970's. He had a Master's Degree in English Literature and a Doctorate in Theology and Divinity. Rev. Dr. Singha served the Church faithfully for many decades and retired as Pastor.
WHEREAS, Rev. J.B. Singha committed himself to his community by starting the Sooth Asian Family Services, which operated as the Samaritan Community Center in the hub of the Indian community on Devon Avenue.
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. J.B. Singha was a strong guiding light in helping many others in the community start their own Not for Profit organizations. He received many awards, the latest being the "Community Excellence Award" given by the Federation of Indian Associations.
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Singha was a charismatic leader who was very involved socially and politically and will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew him; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eleventh day of September 2013, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Rev. Dr. J.B. Singha and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
