In Commemoration of Marcella Juszynski

WHEREAS, Marcella Juszynski, after living a long and fulfilled life, passed away at the age of 90 years old; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Scott Waguespack; and

WHEREAS, Marcella Juszynski was a valued and long-time resident of the Bucktown neighborhood; known for her friendly attitude, kind heart, neighborly service, and care for others; and

WHEREAS, Marcella Juszynski is remembered fondly by her neighbors, friends, and family, including her children, Tony, Kathy, and Chris; her daughter-in-law, M.arcia; her grandchildren, Diane, Greg, Ron, Helen, Christine, Kim, and Danine; and her five great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Marcella Juszynski was born the 30th of October in the year 1922 in Dubno, Poland. Due to her father's work_as a forestry worker in the government, Marcella Juszynski and her family were imprisoned by the Russian Army during World War II. In the winter of 1940, she was deported to a labor camp by the Russian Army. After being released in 1942, she was forced to walk alongside thousands of other prisoners 266 miles to a train station before being picked up by the Red Cross; and

WHEREAS, Marcella Juszynski immigrated with her mother to Iran where she met her husband Jan in the year 1944. They subsequently moved to Chicago and started a family, settling in the neighborhood of Bucktown, then known as the Near Northwest; and

WHEREAS, upon moving to the city, Marcella Juszynski worked at the YMCA hotel at 1611 W. Division, where she was employed for 31 years. Known for her work ethic and eagerness to help others, Marcella Juszynski became a neighborhood resource for new immigrants, helping them overcome language barriers and get settled in a new city; and

WHEREAS, Marcella Juszynski was always known for helping her fellow Chicagoans, looking after elderly neighbors and even nursing injured pigeons back to health; and
