CONGRATULATIONS TO EAST-WEST UNIVERSITY ON THEIR 10th ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER
WHEREAS, On November 16, 2013, East-West University will be holding its 10th Annual Scholarship Dinner; and
WHEREAS, For the past 33 years, it has been East-West University's task to provide affordable education to students of all racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Close to 80 percent of their student body are minorities from disadvantaged communities. Many of its students attending are the first of their families to attend college; and
WHEREAS, East-West University's emphasis on personalized attention promotes an improved learning experience for their students, encouraging participation in class discussions, fostering critical thinking and thereby enabling their abilities to become evident; and
WHEREAS, East-West University, an institutional urban pioneer in revitalizing its surrounding neighborhoods in Chicago's South Loop, continues to promote the preservation of that community's historical significance; and
WHEREAS, East-West University is in the process of expanding and modernizing its facilities in an effort to increase its academic offerings and other student support services to a wider range of students; and
WHEREAS, This annual event serves to fund the scholarships needed to provide disadvantaged students with the means to pursue a college education and become the next generation of our nation's great leaders; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, where East-West University is located, has apprised this august body of this iconic institution of higher learning's annual event; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together on this 13th Day of November, 2013, do hereby salute East-West University's 10th Annual Scholarship Dinner and extend our very best wishes for continued success in fulfilling its vital mission.
