QY&CIS ' ®n August 4, 2013, twelve-year-old Reniah Eubanks was walking to a nearby convenience store in Rogers Park to get a popsicle; and

WHEREAS, Before she arrived at the store, a man leaned out of a dark green SUV and asked her where she was going. The young girl replied that she was going to the store. The man in the SUV then said that he could take her home; and

WHEREAS, Not knowing the man, Reniah Eubanks then rushed into the convenience store on the 7600 block of Paulina Street; and

WHEREAS, Betty Brewer, a customer in the store, heard the youngster ask the cashier if she could stay in the store for a little while. She then told the cashier that there was a man outside whom she didn't know who wanted to take her home; and

WHEREAS, Betty Brewer offered to accompany the girl home. As Ms. Brewer and the little girl left the store, the girl pointed out the stranger in the SUV. Ms. Brewer then walked up to the SUV, confronted the man and asked him if he was trying to take the little girl home; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brewer's forthright, unafraid manner intimidated the man, and he left in his SUV. As the vehicle departed, Ms. Brewer had the presence of mind to write down his license plate number so she could provide that information to the police; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brewer promptly called the police to report what she had seen and to provide the license plate number. She then took the little girl safely home. The little girl later said she was gratefu...
