RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Joseph Gorman, a decorated Commander of the Chicago Police Department's 9th District, has announced his retirement following more than twenty-seven years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Gorman will leave the Chicago Police Department to accept a position as Captain of Police with AMTRAK, effective December, 9, 2013; and

WHEREAS, A third generation Chicago Police Officer, Joseph Gorman is the son of a Chicago Police Detective and was raised in the Beverly-Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Gorman, Star #555, began his long and illustrious career in August of 1986 and received his training in the 5th District; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Gorman worked in the 4th and 10th Districts, and was promoted to Gang Specialist in 1995 and detailed to the Gang Investigations Unit; and

WHEREAS, In 1998 Joseph Gorman was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served in various assignments, including the 9th district, the Special Operations Section and the Area 4 Detective Division; and

WHEREAS, In 2003 Joseph Gorman was assigned to the Gang Intelligence Unit; and

WHEREAS, In 2005 Joseph Gorman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the 7th District; and

WHEREAS, In 2006 Joseph Gorman was assigned to serve as a Lieutenant in Gang Operations in Area 1 and later that year returned to the Gang Investigations Unit; and.
WHEREAS, In 2008 Joseph Gorman was promoted to Commander of the Gang Investigations and in 2012 was assigned to serve as Commander of the 9th District; and

WHEREAS, As the Commander of the 9th District, Joseph Gorman used his vast expertise and knowledge to crack down on gang activity on the Southwest Side; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph Gorman serve as an example to all; now, therefore
