TRIBUTE TO LATE DIXIE LEE HAMPTON
 
 
 
WHEREAS, On Friday, December 6, 2013, God in His infinite wisdom has called Dixie Lee (Brothers) Hampton, most beloved citizen and friend, to her eternal rest; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Jo Ann Thompson, Alderman ofthe 16th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Dixie Lee, born on August 5,1936, loving child ofthe late John and Hazel Brothers, and nurtured by her devoted grandmother Nana; and
 
WHEREAS, Dixie Lee Hampton accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Greater Joy Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Willing Worker Board and many other auxiliary boards. She later joined the congregation of New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church, known in her faith community as a woman who deeply embodied the Christian values of empathy and kindness not just in a pew on Sunday morning, but every day of her life; and
 
WHEREAS, Dixie Lee was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, David Hampton; and
 
WHEREAS, Dixie Lee was preceded in death by her two daughters, Sharon and Romana; sister, Cheneille; brothers, John August and Albert and grandson, Sulley; and
 
WHEREAS, Dixie Lee leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, David; children, Linda (Leroy), William "Billy", Janis (Leroy), Marva and Cozetta: twenty-three grandchildren, LaTonia, Maurice, Zafar, LaVonia, Wakeeta, Tasha, Meeka, William "Lil Bill/', Denisha, Latavia, Dominique, Swonn, Darryl and Kiera; sisters, Doris, Loretta, Pamela, Shelia and Mozella, brother, Stanley, step-sister Rosetta, step brothers Davis, Joe and Tommy, brother-in-law Excell, sisters-in-law, Juanita, JoAnne, Ellis and Willie Mae, a multitude of great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of God-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and
 
WHEREAS, she was known in her community for her astute wisdom and the advice she gave to others during times of trouble. She was a pillar of her community, the head of a family, and an extraordinary woman who was loved and respected by many; her life of hard work and service to others, her devotion to her husband and family, as well as her deep faith in God will not be forgotten; and
 
WHEREAS, Dixie Lee will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February 5,2014, do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Dixie Lee Hampton and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
