SALUTING THE WHITNEY YOUNG DOLPHINS BASKETBALL TEAM
 
 
WHEREAS, The Whitney Young Magnet High School Dolphins Boys Basketball Varsity Team are the 2014 Illinois State Class 4A Basketball Champions; and
 
WHEREAS, These outstanding young male hoopsters join with their female counterparts establishing an unparalleled dominance for Whitney Young Magnet High School in the history of Illinois High School Class 4A basketball. The Lady Dolphins Basketball team earned their Class 4A title earlier in this year's statewide tournament; and
 
WHEREAS, The Dolphins persevered to win the Class 4A state title over a strong competitor, the Benet Academy Redwings from suburban Lisle. Fighting their way back from a first quarter deficit of 19 points, the Dolphins were victorious, beating their last tournament rival by a score of 46 to 44; and
 
WHEREAS, According to some high school basketball mavens, the Dolphins played one of the toughest national high school schedules in the nation. However, due in large part to the outstanding efforts of Coach Tyrone Slaughter and seniors Jahlil Okafor, Paul White and Miles Reynolds, the Dolphins powered their way through the season to garner the championship title; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of the noteworthy accomplishment of these remarkable athletes; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered this 2nd Day of April, 2014, do hereby congratulate Coach Tyrone Slaughter and the Whitney Young Dolphins Boys Varsity Basketball team upon winning the 2014 Illinois State Class 4A Basketball Championship and salute them for the prestige and honor they have garnered for themselves, their school and their city.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to Coach Tyrone Slaughter and the members of the 2014 Whitney Young Boy's Varsity Basketball team.
