SALUTING THE SECOND ANNUAL AUGUSTIN1AN GALA
WHEREAS, On April 25, 2014 the Midwest Augustinians' Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel holds its Second Annual Gala at the Drake Hotel; and
 
WHEREAS, This gala will celebrate the devoted service of three exemplary members of the Order of St. Augustine: Father David L. Brecht, O.S.A.; Father Jack Gavin, O.S.A.; and Father Bill Sullivan O.S.A.; and
 
WHEREAS, Father David Brecht attended Austin Catholic High School, an Augustinian institution in Detroit. After being ordained to the priesthood in 1965, he taught at Mendel Catholic High School, Tolentine College, and at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, eventually becoming Principal of St. Rita of Cascia High School in this city, Headmaster of Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Superintendent of all Augustinian Schools In 1972, Father Brecht was named an "Outstanding Educator in America" and was inducted into the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor in 1980. Father Brecht returned to Michigan in 2006 to serve as the pastor of St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park. He now serves as the Director of Mission Effectiveness at Austin Catholic Academy in Ray, Michigan.
 
WHEREAS, Father Jack Gavin also attended an Augustinian institution, St. Rita of Cascia High School in this city and was ordained to the priesthood in 1948. Following ordination, Father Gavin served in many different capacities at four Augustinian high schools; St. Augustine High School Seminary of Holland, Michigan, St. Rita of Cascia High School and Mendel Catholic High School both located in Chicago, and Augustinian Academy of St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to his retirement in 2005, Father Gavin devoted 22 years of his life to parish ministry in St. Louis. Father Gavin completed his earthly mission and passed away on February 22, 2014. May he rest in peace; and
 
WHEREAS, Father Bill Sullivan attended the Augustinian Mendel Catholic High School in this city and was ordained to the priesthood in 1967. Father Sullivan was first assigned to serve in Michigan at St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park and then at Austin Catholic High School in Detroit and has since served as a member of the Augustinian formation team in communities at Chicago, St. Louis, and Villanova, Pennsylvania. Among other assignments, Father Sullivan was appointed the pastor at St. Clare of Montefalco Parish on this city's South Side and the Parochial Vicar at St. Jude Parish in New Lenox, Illinois, where he currently serves; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of the note worthy event that honors these praiseworthy educators and outstanding spiritual leaders in the Augustinian Community; now therefore
 
BE^IX RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together on this 30*;lJ)ay of April, 2014, do hereby salute the Midwest Augustinians Provence of Our Mother of Good Counsel on the occasion of.their Second Gala and congratulate Father David L. Brecht, O.S.A; Father Jack Gavin, O.S.A; Father Bill-Sullivan,:O.S.A; and to the Very Reverend Bernard C. Scianna, O.S.A., Ph.D, Prior Provincial, Province of Our -MouS^r of Go'od .Counsel on the significant honor bestowed upon them.
 
BE IT-FURTHER RESOLVED That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to Father David L. BrecRt/O.S.A;. Father Bill Sullivan, O.S.A; and to the Very Reverend Bernard C. Scianna, O.S.A., Ph.D, Prior Provincial, Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel.
