RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, We, in this city of immigrants, this city of neighborhoods, this most American of all cities, are particularly cognizant of the "American Dream"; and
WHEREAS, Though seeirtingly fixed and inviolable, the complex social fabric of our great metropolis could be easily torn asunder were it not for the guardians of the public welfare, indeed, the guardians of the American Dream; and
WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment of the motto of the Chicago Police Department - "We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of being life's arbitrator for countless citizens, but also on their family members; and
WHEREAS, Through professionalism and sacrifice, the members of the Chicago Police Department have provided us with one of the safest cities in the United States of America, allowing each of us to pursue our own version of the "American Dream" in safety and confidence; and
WHEREAS, The words of Sir Winston Churchill, "never was so much owed to so few" were never so apropos; and
WHEREAS, Terrence J. Clark, Star #4840, began his illustrious career with the Chicago Police Department as a dispatcher aide in 1976; and
WHEREAS, In 1980 Terrence J. Clark joined the Cook County Department of Corrections and was assigned to Cook County Jail; and
WHEREAS, Terrence J. Clark returned to the Chicago Police Department as a police officer on June 16,1986 and was assigned to the 21st Police District; and
WHEREAS, While working in parking enforcement, Terrence J. Clark was struck on his motorcycle by a motorist and was treated for extremely serious injuries which included a femur bone that was broken in half and came to rest on his chest; and
WHEREAS, Since 1994 Terrence J. Clark has been assigned to the Mayor's Office where he has ably provided security; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this twenty-fifth day of June, 2014, do hereby express our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Terrence J. Clark on the occasion of his retirement and for his dedication, professionalism and personal sacrifice that he has provided during his years of public service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Terrence J. Clark.
