RESOLUTION
V. WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago is a yearly two-day, 200 mile cycling event whose mission is to be a catalyst for change in the HIV/AIDS Community by raising vital funds for those living with , or at risk for HIV, while simultaneously fighting the shame and stigma associated with the disease by raising awareness around the disease; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this prestigious event by the Honorable Deborah Mell, Alderman of the 33re Ward, Honorable Ariel Reboyras, Alderman of the 30th Ward, Honorable Thomas Tunney, Alderman ofthe 44th Ward, Honorable Daniel Solis, Alderman ofthe 25th Ward, Honorable James Cappleman, Alderman of the 46th Ward, and Honorable Brendan Reilly, Alderman of the 42nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago's vision is to be a nationally recognized model of a charity cycling event providing non-profit organizations the opportunity to empower their growth in services and expanded donor base through an event like Ride for AIDS Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2014, Ride for AIDS Chicago is celebrating its eleventh anniversary with more than 400 registered participants and hundreds of volunteers; and

.WHEREAS, Over its 11 year history Ride for AIDS Chicago has raised nearly $2.5 million for HIV/AIDS; and

WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago will be held during the weekend of July 12 and 13, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, TPAN (Test Positive Aware Network), the organization producing the Ride, has been serving the HIV/AIDS community in Chicago for more than 25 years; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty fifth day of June, 2014, salute Ride for AIDS Chicago 2014 participants and volunteers on their commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to theJPAN organization as a tokenjif-eMr gratitud
