BVBQS , Fifteen years ago, a group of women in Chicago were inspired by a vision: that in a perfect world, every young woman would be empowered to transform her life through education; and

WHEREAS, For the past two years, 100% of the Young Women's Leadership Charter School seniors have graduated and gained admission to colleges and universities around the country. The YWLCS Class of 2014 received an impressive $1.2 million in scholarships; and

WHEREAS, More than 400 young women have graduated from the school, and nearly 80% of YWLCS alumnae have gone on to attend college; and

WHEREAS, The Young Women's Leadership Charter School instills a sense of self-confidence in these young women to transform their lives. Students are taught that there are "No excuses, just results"; and

WHEREAS, The prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship has been bestowed upon Charnae Caldwell, a 2014 YWLCS senior. This is the second straight year that the school has had a Gates Millennium Scholar; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics, has informed this distinguished body of this important milestone; and

WHEREAS, The Young Women's Leadership Charter School graduating class of 2014 stands as proof of the ability and potential of the young women of Chicago; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City ...
